Montblanc, the German luxury watch brand famous for its writing instruments and leather bags, entered the smartwatch market with the Montblanc Summit in 2017. Its latest edition, the Montblanc Summit 2, is positioned as a uber luxe premium edition smartwatch, complete with a calf leather strap, a thick steel or titanium case, a folding clasp and sapphire glass, for those discerning consumers who like to move with the times, and have the means to afford super premium luxury smartwatches. By doing so, Montblanc is upping the ante against the likes of Apple Watch Series 4 models and the smart watches from TAG Huer.
When it comes to the design and display, the Montblanc’s Summit 2 is inspired by the Montblanc’s 1858 collection, and comes with a compact unisex 42mm case. The Summit 2 comes with a series of classic dial options, and with different case finishes, including stainless steel, bicolour steel, black DLC steel, and grade 2 titanium. The Summit 2 includes a quick strap-change, with a choice of eleven different straps. In essence, it has the look of a simple mechanical wristwatch that has some very innovative high-tech features. The Summit 2 features a 1.2″ full circle AMOLED display (390×390).
It is the first smartwatch powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, that ensures augmented performance and enhanced battery life. It comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. In addition, the Montblanc Summit 2 comes with Wear OS by Google, that provides a quick access to Google Assistant, Google Fit, and redesigned notifications, as well as quick settings. Compatible with both iOS and Android smartphones, the Summit 2 is perfection personified when it comes to work or play, whether it be business travel or extreme sports.
The TimeShifter app offers personalised advice based on one’s travel schedule and sleep patterns. Relevant travel information is offered through a new Montblanc exclusive Travel app. Pretty nifty and useful.
The Montblanc Summit 2 features all the standard smartwatch functions, including NFC, heartrate monitor, 5ATM water resistance, 340mAh battery, rotating crown with two pushers on each side of it, 22mm bands, and a really nicely sized 42mm case.
With all the customizable exciting features on the outside and the inside, the Summit 2 is an exciting, and hard to ignore, proposition for those who love luxe. Yes, the Summit 2 is an expensive proposition. Compared to the mechanical Montblancs, its still affordable. Compared to other smartwatches, it may be more expensive, but still offers plenty of choices that make it a much better choice for the discerning, who do not love to settle for less.
