In 2018, Vivo was high on smartphone experimentation. Whether it be through its concept phones, or mainstream ones. Vivo’s hardware success is in sharp contrast to Apple’s recent, sedate incremental innovation.

Vivo has churned out mid-range smartphones in quick succession. One need not look beyond the V series to see the incredible design philosophy that has marked Vivo. The new Vivo V15 Pro marks Vivo’s first major smartphone for 2019. The V15 Pro imbibes the design philosophy of Vivo’s Nex flagships. The V15 Pro marks a clear design departure from the V7, V9 and V11.

Vivo V15 Pro The Vivo V15 Pro sports a 6.39-inch Full HD+ Ultra FullView display with an aspect ratio rated at 19:5:9 for really thin bezels.

Snapdragon 675: Flagship Features in a Mid-ranger

The Vivo V15 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC coupled with Adreno 612 GPU. The V15 Pro is the ‘first’ device to debut with the 675 in India. The 675 is an update to the popular Snapdragon 660. While the Snapdragon 675 sits below the Snapdragon 710, it outperforms it. Two Kryo 460 cores clocked at 2GHz do the heavy lifting. The six 1.7GHz efficiency cores take care less performance-intensive tasks. The 675’s newer Cortex-A76 cores translate into a brilliant performance for a mid-tier phone. The device features 6GB RAM for multi-tasking, and 128GB of internal storage, expandable upto 256GB via a microSD card.

In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

With each phone, Vivo has been consistently improving their in-display fingerprint sensors. The V15 Pro comes with a fifth-generation component. It has a higher fingerprint pixel density and more sophisticated algorithms.  The sensor offers swift, reliable and flawless performance every time.

Triple Cameras

The Vivo V15 Pro sports a triple camera setup at the back. It joins other smartphone brands, such as Huawei and Samsung. Unlike them, V15 Pro has a 48-MP sensor, as seen in the Honor View20.

The triple camera comprises of:

      • a 12MP (48 Million Quad Pixel Sensor) with f/1.8 aperture,
      • a 5MP depth sensor, and
      • a 8MP AI super wide-angle camera with f/2.4 aperture.

On the front, the V15 Pro has a mechanized, and incredible 32-MP pop-up selfie camera. The 32-MP lens is a testament to Vivo’s hunger to keep innovating. It sports the Samsung ISOCELL GD1 sensor and f/2.0 aperture.

The V15 Pro uses ‘quad-pixel technology’. It combines four adjacent pixels into a single 1.6μm large pixel. It ensures far brighter and well-detailed than that offered by smartphones, thus far.

The AI Scene Identification works fine. It identifies people, flowers, and 15 other different scenes, and automatically adjusts certain settings accordingly.

For a mid-ranger, the V15 Pro camera is impressive. The photos are sharp, brilliant, and with crisp details. It stands apart from other phones out there.

Battery

The Vivo V15 Pro is powered by a 3700mAh battery with dual-engine fast charge support, that charges the device by upto 25% in around 15 minutes. The battery performs well, and lasts around a day.

Conclusion

The Vivo V15 Pro features a spectrum ripple design, and is available in Topaz Blue and Ruby Red variants.

Vivo V15 Pro is a unique phone. One that stands out for its innovation. And, a massive improvement over the Nex.  It scores high on design, craftsmanship, and performance.

Of course, it may not appeal to everyone. For instance, the pop-up camera may appear ‘gimmicky’. Yet, this is something that heavy content consumers would appreciate. Imagine all that all-screen display.  The V15 Pro is a good bet for all-day multi-tasking. Only some pure performance seekers may find fault with the chipset on this one.

With the V15 Pro, Vivo has a solid and bold proposition in the mid-range. Competitiors, be wary.
