No conversation on Samsung is complete without a mention of its “ostrich attitude”. At least for the past few years, the company seems to have buried its head in the sand, trapped in the delusion that all is well. In response to journalists questioning its declining market share, it offers the findings of German market research firm GfK. GfK data paints a rosy picture—when it comes to end consumer sales, Samsung is number one. However, most market research firms go by shipment data, and on that count, Samsung is ceding ground. A lot of it.

Cybermedia Research’s Prabhu Ram feels that with Samsung getting into Xiaomi’s turf aggressively, the company will certainly eat into the Chinese company’s market share. But Xiaomi is no sitting duck. The company is, as always, innovating. Almost ridiculously so.
